Choose the format before the stops
A shore session keeps you at one stretch of coast. A boat trip moves you between sites and adds boarding, time aboard and a meeting point to the day. Choose the format that suits your swimming confidence and the time you want in the water; a longer list of stops is not automatically a better trip.
Boat options around Trawangan, Meno and Air include shared excursions and private charters. These are different arrangements, rather than different names for the same product.

A Trawangan shared trip includes a meeting point
Mad Monkey’s Trawangan excursion describes a shared public boat, snorkeling equipment, a life jacket and drinking water. It also excludes transport to the east side of the island and food. That is a useful distinction: joining a trip does not necessarily include getting from your accommodation to the departure point.
Read those inclusions as the scope of that particular excursion, not a rule for every shared boat. Compare the meeting location, guide arrangements and return island before treating two offers as equivalent.

Snorkeling Gili Islands describes a private boat with a snorkeling guide and the option to spend longer at a chosen stop or pause on another island. Its route examples include the Nest sculptures off Meno, reefs off Air and sites off Trawangan.
That flexibility is the reason to consider a private boat. It does not make every requested site accessible in all conditions, and “three islands” need not mean going ashore on all three. Agree whether you want water stops, beach time or both.

- Origin and return
- Name the island where you will board and the island where the trip ends. A Meno stop is not proof of a Meno departure.
- Water support
- Confirm who guides in the water, flotation and equipment fit, and how the crew handles someone who wants to stay aboard.
- Conditions and wildlife
- Use a current local assessment for entry, exit, currents and weather. A site name or turtle photograph is not a promise of suitable conditions or a sighting.
- Room in the day
- Keep a snorkeling excursion separate from an onward ferry connection unless both arrangements leave a realistic margin.
Trawangan or Air departure: compare the actual collection
Gili Snorkeling lists a premium shared group with a maximum of six and a Trawangan meeting point, separate two- and four-hour private Trawangan options, and a four-hour private programme with pickup from Air. These are useful examples of why the departure island and group arrangement come before the site list. The page also sells a Senggigi pickup product, which is a mainland journey rather than a Gili-island meeting point.
Do not compare a Trawangan meeting-point price with Air hotel pickup as if the transport were identical. Request the final party total and inclusions; the listing’s starting-price labels alone do not resolve every occupancy basis. You can choose a water programme visiting sites off the other islands without moving rooms. Settle the overnight base and the booked return island before using a three-island activity label as an itinerary.
