The statues are off Gili Meno, not Trawangan or Air
The Gili Meno underwater statues are Nest, a circle of 48 life-size figures by Jason deCaires Taylor, installed in 2017. They sit off Meno’s west coast beside BASK. A tour advertised from Gili Trawangan or Gili Air is describing where you board, not a different location for the sculptures.
Choose a guided shore visit if you are already staying on Meno and local conditions allow it. From Trawangan or Air, an excursion returning to your base usually avoids the separate passenger transfers needed for a Meno day visit. That is a planning choice, not a claim that a boat or shore entry is suitable on every day.

BASK’s own site places the installation roughly 100 metres off Meno’s west beach. The artist lists a depth of 4 metres; BASK describes a range of roughly 3–6 metres. These are site descriptions, not a tide prediction or an instruction to stand on the bottom. You can view the installation from the surface when visibility permits.
BASK describes access from the beach and guided swims arranged through local dive shops. That does not make the swim a short, sheltered pool session. Ask a guide on Meno to assess the day’s entry, exit, current and boat activity. If you are not confident in open water, do not turn the quoted offshore distance into a self-guided swimming target.

| Your decision | Practical approach | What to establish first |
|---|---|---|
| Staying on Meno | Arrange a locally assessed shore session or a boat visit. You do not need to change islands to reach the west coast. | The actual beach meeting point, water guide, equipment and a suitable return to shore. |
| Staying on Trawangan | Choose a Trawangan-departure excursion that explicitly includes Nest and returns to Trawangan. | Whether Nest is a planned water stop, the group size and the east-side meeting point. |
| Staying on Air | Choose an Air-pickup excursion, or make a separate Meno passenger transfer for time ashore. | Collection and return on Air; an excursion sold from Trawangan is not automatically an Air pickup. |
Boat products: origin matters more than a three-island label
Gili Snorkeling lists a shared small-group product with a Trawangan meeting point, private two- and four-hour Trawangan products, and a separate four-hour private option with Air pickup. Those descriptions show why the same general island itinerary can involve different collection arrangements.
Select the product that names Nest, your boarding island and your return. A list of three islands does not promise beach landings on all three, a fixed order of water stops or an empty sculpture site. If Nest is the main reason for booking, establish how a weather-related route change is handled before paying. No current departure availability or universal tour price is asserted here.
Gili Snorkeling: island-specific meeting points and productsA Meno day visit needs passenger transfers as well
If you want lunch and time walking on Meno, book a passenger journey to the island and a return separately from the water activity. A snorkelling boat passing the sculptures is not proof that you can leave the excursion with luggage or arrange a later pickup.
From Trawangan or Air, keep the transfer landing distinct from the west-coast beach where you want to enter the water. Leave time to cross the island and return to the booked departure point. Do not attach a last-minute Meno visit to an onward Bali ferry.
View the figures without touching them
BASK asks visitors not to stand on, touch or grab the sculptures and not to feed fish. Keep fins and equipment clear of the figures and seabed. A close photograph is not a reason to hold a statue or crowd another swimmer.
Choose the day from local conditions rather than a promised best hour. BASK promotes morning visits, but that is not a guarantee of visibility, calm water or fewer boats. If conditions are unsuitable, keep the visit for another day. The published depth does not establish suitability for children or inexperienced swimmers.
