Gili Islands fast boats: compare routes and operators

A route-based shortlist of BlueWater Express, Ekajaya and Gili Getaway. Start with the Bali port and your actual island, then compare stops, transfers and the named operating carrier.

Choose the journey before the brand

Compare BlueWater Express for its Serangan and Padang Bai routes to Trawangan or Air, Ekajaya when you need to investigate a named Meno arrival, and Gili Getaway for its Serangan island line via Nusa Penida and west Lombok. Start with the departure port and the island where you will sleep; the same brand can sell journeys with different stops.

This is a route comparison, not a tested ranking of comfort or safety. The operator information was checked on 24 October 2026; the dated booking offer determines the actual sailing and carrier.

Three operators to consider by route fit

  • An official operator site must identify its departure port and island endpoints. “Bali to Gili” alone is not enough.
  • Prefer a route that reaches your sleeping island. Count additional stops and any separate local boat, not just the headline crossing.
  • Compare road transfer, baggage, passenger restrictions and cancellation terms on the actual offer. This is a route-fit selection, not a safety or service-quality ranking.

  1. BlueWater Express

    Consider for a Serangan or Padang Bai departure to Trawangan or Air.

    BlueWater publishes separate month-specific schedules. Its October Padang Bai departure is listed at 12:15, reaching Trawangan at approximately 13:45 and Air at 14:20. Its November–April table instead lists Padang Bai at 10:15, Trawangan at 11:45 and Air at 12:20. Serangan routes can run via Padang Bai or Nusa Penida, depending on the season and departure.

    Its FAQ does not offer a Gili Meno landing: Meno passengers need a separate local connection from Air or Trawangan. Hotel transfers in Bali are a separate scope decision; Gili hotel transfers are not provided.

  2. Ekajaya Fast Ferry

    Consider when Gili Meno is your intended endpoint.

    Ekajaya names Gili Meno separately from Trawangan and Air in its official booking selector. Its FAQ identifies Padang Bai as the primary Bali departure point and offers private or shared Bali shuttles for an additional, location-dependent price. This makes it worth comparing for Meno rather than accepting an Air ticket with an unplanned extra crossing.

    A destination in a selector is not proof of a nonstop boat, every-date service or a reserved seat. Check the offered sailing and any shuttle/landing arrangement before comparing its total price with an Air ticket.

  3. Gili Getaway

    Consider for a Serangan journey where the longer island-line stop pattern suits you.

    The published outbound line is Serangan → Nusa Penida → Gili Gede → Senggigi → Trawangan → Air → Bangsal. The route page lists Serangan at 08:00, Trawangan at approximately 11:45 and Air at 12:15. Its advertised starting fare from Serangan to either Trawangan or Air is IDR 700,000 per journey, checked 24 October 2026; this is a starting fare, not a quote for your date or a complete hotel-to-hotel total.

    The route page says the Bali–Trawangan crossing may be run by Gili Getaway or a clearly named recommended operator. Identify the actual carrier in the offered trip. Short local Trawangan–Air–Bangsal hops are separately described as local-boat services.

Price the whole connection

Compare the boat fare plus the actual hotel transfer, luggage or sports-equipment charges, any harbour or landing charges and the final trip to your room. BlueWater does not provide Gili hotel transfers. Ekajaya says its boat fares vary with season, availability and promotions, and Bali shuttle prices depend on location.

For a luggage comparison, Ekajaya currently states 25 kg checked baggage plus one hand-carry bag up to 7 kg. BlueWater states up to 25 kg checked baggage plus hand carry without specifying a hand-carry weight in its FAQ. Gili Getaway lists a separate surfboard-bag charge. Read the allowance attached to the exact booking if you carry bulky equipment.

Use the exact offered island and carrier

For Meno, compare an offer that explicitly names Meno against the total cost and timing of a separate local boat from Air or Trawangan. For Serangan, count the intermediate calls: the Gili Getaway island line and BlueWater’s seasonal services do not all follow the same route. Gili Getaway says its Bali–Trawangan offer can be operated by a clearly labelled recommended carrier; read that name before paying.

BlueWater’s last check-in is 30 minutes before sailing, and Gili Getaway requests arrival at the dock at least 30 minutes before departure. These are operator-specific instructions. Pregnancy, relevant health conditions and insurance age limits need a separate reading of the chosen operator’s passenger terms.

Keep a night in Bali before a flight

Both BlueWater and Ekajaya recommend returning the day before a connecting flight. A published arrival time does not include unloading, the road transfer or airport check-in, and a weather closure can last longer than one day.
