Things to do in Gili Air: snorkelling, cooking and yoga

Choose Air-pickup snorkelling, diving, an Indonesian cooking class or a drop-in yoga studio, with a practical plan for one or two full days.

Start with an Air-based activity, not another transfer

For things to do in Gili Air, start with a snorkelling outing collected on Air, a dive programme, an Indonesian cooking class or a drop-in yoga session. Use the rest of the day for walking between your part of the island and the coast. You do not need to move to Trawangan to find organised activities.

For one full day, choose a water outing or a cooking-and-yoga day. With two full days, you can do both without making the arrival and departure days carry the itinerary. The suggested sequence below is editorial pacing, not a tour package.

Snorkelling: choose pickup on Air

Gili Snorkeling lists a private four-hour tour with pickup from Gili Air, separately from its shared and private products meeting on Trawangan. That distinction matters more than a generic three-island description: an inexpensive Trawangan meeting-point ticket can require an extra passenger transfer before your activity starts.

Choose the Air-pickup product if you want to leave and return from your base. Establish the exact collection beach and return arrangement when booking. If the Meno statues are your main objective, have Nest named in the planned stops. The installation is off Meno, not Air; an Air departure describes your boarding island. Water stops, landing ashore and carrying luggage are different services.

Diving: a first experience is different from a fun dive

Blue Marlin Dive Gili Air advertises a try-diving session with a pool session and ocean dive, beginner courses and fun dives for certified divers. Choose the introduction if you want to try scuba without committing to a full certification course. Choose a course only after agreeing the training days and requirements around your island stay.

Already certified? Use the fun-diving programme and discuss your qualification, recent experience and planned sites with the centre. A beginner session and a certified-diver outing are not interchangeable tickets. Medical screening, individual suitability and the interval before your onward flight belong with the qualified dive provider; this guide does not give personal clearance.

Cook on Air: select the right island booking

Gili Cooking Classes operates on both Air and Trawangan and gives each island its own booking link. Select Gili Air before choosing the dated session. The Intro Course covers klepon, fried tempe with peanut sauce and fried noodles; the larger menus add dishes such as yellow chicken curry. The meal you prepare, drinking water and recipes are included.

The operator lists a maximum of 12 guests and says participants cook in pairs at a station; a solo visitor may be paired with someone else. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options are advertised, with participation recommended from age eight. Discuss specific allergies before booking. Evening start times vary by season, so keep the selected session time rather than assuming a fixed sunset-friendly slot.

Yoga: Garden and Seaside are different locations

Flowers & Fire advertises daily drop-in classes at its Yoga Garden treehouse studio and beachfront classes at its Seaside location in northeast Gili Air. Choose Garden if you want the open-air studio setting; choose Seaside if the beach setting is part of the reason to go. They are not two names for the same meeting point.

The operator describes classes for different experience levels, from first-timers onwards. Use its current schedule to select the class and studio, then leave time to reach that location from your accommodation. A drop-in class does not require booking a residential yoga stay. Discuss any injury or pregnancy-related requirements with an appropriately qualified professional rather than treating an all-levels label as medical advice.

Walk to the coast that fits the time of day

Air’s east and west coasts answer different plans. The east side faces sunrise towards Lombok; the west is the sunset-facing choice. If you want an early walk before your activity, use the coast near your room rather than crossing the island just to fill an itinerary. For sunset, leave enough time to reach the west side and return on a route you know.

Walking is enough for a short coastal outing; a bicycle is optional, not an essential purchase. Carry water and a light if returning after dark. A sea view is not evidence of a suitable swimming entry, and a yoga studio on the beach is not a supervised swimming facility.

Two full days on Air

Use the first full day for your booked Air-pickup snorkelling outing or qualified dive session. Keep lunch and the remaining afternoon on Air. If sunset is a priority, choose a west-coast walk rather than trying to add Meno ashore after the water trip.

On the second day, take a drop-in yoga class at the studio named on the schedule, then leave a meal-sized gap for the cooking class you select. You will eat the food you make, so do not book a second dinner immediately afterwards. If the class times clash, keep one and use the other half of the day locally. For only one full day, choose this land day or the water day.

A separate Meno or Trawangan visit can replace a full-day plan, but needs outward and return passenger boats. Do not count a snorkelling stop off another island as time exploring it ashore.
