Bangsal harbour to the Gili Islands: public and private boats

From Bangsal, choose a shared public boat to your exact island or reserve a private speedboat. Teluk Nara and Teluk Kodek are different boarding places, not alternative names for Bangsal.

Which boat should you take from Bangsal?

Use the public-boat ticket office at Bangsal if you want the shared local crossing and can leave room for waiting. Reserve a private speedboat if you need an agreed pickup, have a group or want the boat leg coordinated with your car. Specify Gili Air, Gili Meno or Gili Trawangan before buying: a ticket to “the Gilis” is not a precise destination.

Bangsal is on mainland Lombok near Pemenang. It is not an island port, and it is not Teluk Nara. Some private operators collect from either harbour, so the place to send your driver is the confirmed boarding point, not whichever port name appears first in a general route description.

Public boats: ticket office, waiting and fares

Lombok Network describes the shared public service as Karya Bahari cooperative boats: passengers register at the ticket office and wait for a load-based departure rather than a fixed reserved sailing. Go to that office for the ticket, destination and departure instructions. A private charter offered elsewhere is a different product; do not pay for one believing it is the mandatory public fare.

The same source labels its public fare table “2019–2020”, and its opening/closing descriptions do not agree precisely. We therefore do not present those amounts or a last boat as current facts. Read the displayed fare and obtain the office’s departure advice on the day. Keep the ticket; agree whether baggage or other charges are included before handing money to anyone offering extra services.

A daytime arrival with spare time suits this option better than a tight late-afternoon connection. If your trip depends on leaving at a particular time, use a confirmed private booking or stay on Lombok rather than assuming a waiting public boat will leave to suit you.

A sourced private-boat price

Rocksteady’s Lombok-to-Gili service page lists IDR 400,000 for a one-way boat to Gili Air, Meno or Trawangan, for up to seven people. That is per boat, not per passenger. It describes the trip as 15 minutes; treat this as the operator’s approximate boat-leg duration, excluding meeting, loading and any road journey.

The operator’s homepage adds IDR 100,000 for pickups before 06:00 or after 18:00. That surcharge is not a guarantee of an available night departure. Get the pickup time, harbour, party size and luggage agreed for the actual booking. A seven-person maximum is not a promise that seven people plus any amount of luggage will fit.

Getting to the correct island

For Gili Air, buy the Air crossing and keep your hotel’s location ready for arrival. For Gili Meno, do not accept a Trawangan ticket unless you have deliberately arranged a second boat. For Gili Trawangan, make sure the booking is the local Lombok-to-island trip rather than a Bali-bound fast ferry calling at Bangsal.

A boat moored in the harbour is not necessarily operating the service you need. Show the ticket to staff, follow their boarding instructions and keep your passport or identity details and booking accessible. Carry essential items in a bag you can keep dry; boarding and luggage handling vary with the boat and landing place.

Before departure, settle how you will get from the island landing to your accommodation. A harbour arrival is not automatically a hotel transfer, particularly for a property on the opposite side of an island.

If you are starting at Lombok airport

Airport arrivals need both the road transfer and the boat. A quoted short crossing does not include the drive across Lombok or waiting for a public departure. The airport guide compares a bundled car-and-boat booking with organising the legs separately.

Changing islands after arrival

If you intend to stay on more than one Gili, travel between the islands rather than automatically returning to Bangsal. An overnight move and a snorkeling excursion need different tickets and luggage arrangements.
