Choose the coast for the activity, not one “best beach”
For a Gili Trawangan beach day, use the east and southeast coast for central access, northeast Turtle Point as the named turtle-snorkelling area, and the west coast for sunset. These are different uses of the shore, not three equivalent swimming beaches. Jalan Pantai Timur is the eastern sunrise-facing reference; the west faces towards Bali.
Do not enter the water at the passenger landing or choose an offshore swim from a beach photograph. Manta Dive warns that strong tidal currents affect shore snorkelling. A local assessment of the exact entry and exit matters more than an island-wide claim that the water is calm.

| Your decision | Use this stretch for | Keep separate |
|---|---|---|
| East coast / Jalan Pantai Timur | Sunrise-facing beach time and access to the central restaurant strip | Passenger landings, boat movements and a suitable swimming entry are different places |
| Southeast near Pearl of Trawangan | A named coastal reference at the edge of the centre | The southeast reef surf break is not a beginner swimming or surfing recommendation |
| Northeast Turtle Point | Locating the turtle-snorkelling area before choosing a shore session or guide | Wildlife is not guaranteed; do not turn the name into a safe-entry instruction |
| West / sunset coast | An afternoon on shore followed by sunset towards Bali | A sunset venue, hotel pool and suitable sea-swimming entry are not interchangeable |
East and southeast: useful access, but avoid the landing zone
Jalan Pantai Timur gives you an eastern coastal reference rather than one enclosed beach with a single entrance. For a place south of the central strip, Pearl of Trawangan identifies its location on the southeast coast, at the edge of the island centre. Use that to orient a walk from the harbour area towards a coastal lunch or beach stop.
Keep bags and passenger boarding out of the swim plan. Move away from landing activity and obtain current advice on the specific water entry, boat route and exit before entering. Being near restaurants makes a land-based beach break convenient; it does not certify the water in front of them.
Pearl of Trawangan: southeast-coast locationNortheast Turtle Point: a location, not a guaranteed encounter
Villa Almarik identifies Turtle Point on Trawangan’s northeast coast. It is the named area to locate if turtles are the reason for your outing. Do not confuse it with Mahamaya’s Turtle Point location on Gili Meno, and do not interpret a tour’s “turtle stop” as proof that it uses this exact shore entry.
Decide between a locally assessed shore session and a guided boat programme. Manta Dive specifically warns about strong tidal currents and recommends speaking with a dive shop before heading out. If conditions or your ability do not suit the shore session, choose time on land or discuss a different guided option; swimming farther out is not a way to secure a sighting.
Villa Almarik: northeast Turtle Point locationWest coast: choose it for sunset, assess swimming separately
The western shore is the sunset side. Pearl Sunset is a named beachfront resort in this area and lists Cloud9 Restaurant; it is a venue reference, not the name of the whole beach. Choose a west-coast stop if you want to remain on land into the evening rather than return to the east before sunset.
A hotel’s pool and beach loungers are its facilities: do not assume a non-guest can use them free. Establish the venue’s terms if that is part of the afternoon. For a sea swim, assess the actual entry and tide separately rather than assuming a sunset-facing beach gives easy water access. A clear view towards Bali also depends on weather.
Pearl Sunset: sunset-area beachfront setting and Cloud9Do not use the southeast surf break as a swimming recommendation
Manta Dive describes the southeast corner’s surf as swell-dependent reef breaks and says it is not for beginners. That is a different activity from a casual beach swim near a southeast hotel. A broad compass label is not precise enough to choose a water entry.
Before a shore snorkel, establish the intended entry and return point, current direction and boat traffic with a local dive centre. Do not assume the whole coastline is suitable because marine life is visible close to shore. Keep turtles undisturbed and avoid standing on coral.
Manta Dive: tidal-current and southeast reef-break warningsA beach day without booking another boat
Our suggested land-based sequence is an east-coast morning, lunch near the central or southeast strip, then a separate west-coast outing for sunset. Add Turtle Point only if a shore session is appropriate on the day; it is not a required swim between the other stops. This is editorial pacing, not a tide timetable.
Walk or use a suitable bicycle for the land stages, allowing for soft sand and the return after dark. Choose a room on the coast you expect to use most rather than repeating a cross-island journey every evening. If you want cooking, diving or a boat outing instead of an all-beach day, use the activities guide.
What this beach guide verifies
The tourism authority, Villa Almarik, Manta Dive and the named venue pages were checked on 24 October 2026 for coastal orientation, locations and the quoted current/reef warnings. They do not provide a lifeguard survey or a guarantee of turtle sightings. No fixed entry fee, lounger tariff, protected swimming zone or current tide window is claimed.
