Gili Air diving: compare dive-day formats, reefs and prices

Compare Gili Air dive centres, a two-dive outing versus separate trips, published 3W prices, equipment extras and the differences between Hans Reef and Air Wall.

Stay on Air and choose the dive-day format

Gili Air diving does not require a daily passenger-boat commute to Trawangan. Air-based centres run boat dives around the three main Gilis, and some also offer Lombok sites. The useful first choice is how much of the day you want to commit: Manta Air describes a two-dive outing, while Blue Marlin Air advertises separate daily departures.

For certified divers, 3W publishes a clear fun-dive price list and refresher requirement. Compare these actual arrangements before choosing a centre by a generic “best dive sites” list. Your island base, the reef location and the passenger harbour are separate things.

Manta Air: allow for the two-dive outing

Manta Dive Gili Air asks first-time guests to visit the day before diving for paperwork and the next day’s schedule. Its published general pattern is a two-dive trip at 09:00 returning at 14:00, with an additional 14:30 single dive in busy periods. It asks divers to arrive at least half an hour before a trip. That makes an arrival-day connection from Bali a poor assumption for your first dive.

The centre describes mainly drift dives, with the boat collecting divers at the end, and boat journeys of roughly 10–25 minutes. Its page gives two different group-size descriptions, so do not assume the four-per-guide offer on Manta’s Trawangan site also applies here. The Air discount list also overlaps at five dives; obtain the applicable total rather than calculating a package from ambiguous bands.

Blue Marlin Air: separate departures and a Friday exception

Blue Marlin’s Air daily-diving page offers a choice of one, two or three dives, with departures at 09:00, 11:30 and 14:30 and two Friday trips at 09:00 and 14:00. It places the operation on the west of Gili Air and advertises no more than four divers per guide. This is worth comparing with Manta Air’s longer two-dive outing if companions have other plans on land.

That daily page contains N/A price fields, so they are not usable quotes. The Air branch’s FAQ gives more helpful inclusion detail: basic equipment is included, but a dive computer for fun diving and Nitrox cost extra. The FAQ also says site requests depend on conditions and course scheduling. Choose from the actual trip board rather than treating a reef request as a reservation.

3W’s published prices and what they include

On 25 October 2026, 3W Dive Gili Air lists IDR 650,000 for one fun dive, IDR 1,170,000 for two, IDR 2,210,000 for four and IDR 5,200,000 for ten. Those multi-dive figures are the published bundle totals, not per-dive rates. The page advertises online offers, so agree the booking basis before assuming a walk-in receives the same package.

Its listed inclusions are a guide or instructor, basic equipment including a 12-litre aluminium tank, and water, coffee, tea and fruit. It separately lists an IDR 100,000 Gili Matra payment at the centre. This is an operator-stated extra, not independent legal certification of a universal park tariff. A dive computer is not named in that basic equipment list; include any computer rental, Nitrox or other additions in your written comparison.

3W advertises a maximum of four divers per guide. It requires at least Open Water certification for fun dives and says a refresher is mandatory after more than 12 months without diving. This is a provider-specific rule, not a promise that everyone with a more recent dive can skip an assessment.

Hans Reef, Harbour Reef and Air Wall answer different requests

Hans Reef lies northeast of Air. 3W describes sand and coral bommies with a broad 6–24-metre site range and highlights macro subjects such as pipefish, shrimps and nudibranchs. It is a useful reef to discuss for slow observation and photography, without assuming that every diver will cover the full depth range or find a particular animal.

Harbour Reef is south of Air, described by 3W as a gentler slope around 6–15 metres with small sunken boats and a focus on night-diving subjects. A guided dive there is not permission to enter independently from an active passenger-boat area. A night or mandarin-fish outing needs a specifically arranged trip.

Air Wall is west of the island, with the wall beginning around eight metres and deeper terrain below. Although 3W labels it for all levels, the same description mentions medium-to-strong current. Ask for the planned depth, route and pickup procedure for your qualification and comfort, rather than treating the label as a beginner-safety guarantee.

A reef beside Meno can still be an Air-based dive

Air centres also visit sites beside other islands. 3W lists Turtle Heaven northeast of Meno and Bounty Wreck southwest of Meno; booking from Air does not mean the dive will remain along Air’s shore. Nor does the dive boat automatically provide passenger transport for an island-hopping day. Keep accommodation transfers and diving as separate bookings.

Blue Marlin Air recommends a refresher after six months without diving and requires one after more than a year. Its FAQ distinguishes that from a beginner’s Discover Scuba programme. If you are not certified, book instruction rather than a fun dive; if medical screening calls for clearance, arrange it before your first water session. For flying or a Lombok altitude extension after diving, use qualified advice rather than a generic “next day is fine” rule.
