Bali to the Gili Islands: which port and island?

Compare Padang Bai and Serangan, match Trawangan, Air or Meno, and account for the hotel transfer before choosing an outbound fast boat.

Choose your departure from the hotel, not the map alone

A Bali-to-Gili journey starts at your accommodation, not at the harbour. BlueWater Express recommends Serangan for south Bali and Padang Bai for central Bali. Compare both road and sea legs from your actual address: a shorter headline crossing can come with a less convenient road transfer.

This is the outbound direction. Your return boat may call at different ports in a different order; do not reuse these boarding instructions for the journey back.

Your accommodation in BaliYour accommodation on Trawangan, Air or Meno

  1. Before booking

    Name your island

Enter Trawangan, Air or Meno explicitly. If the offered arrival differs from the island where you sleep, price and confirm the missing local connection.

  2. Road leg

Confirm the Bali pickup and port

Get the pickup address, pickup time, actual departure harbour and transfer price in writing. An included pickup claim must cover your specific hotel area.

  3. Boat leg

    Read the date-specific stop order

Check the month and direction of the schedule. BlueWater lists seasonal routes via Nusa Penida or Padang Bai, and warns that times are approximate.

  4. Island arrival

    Finish at your room

Arrange the route from the actual landing point to your accommodation. Ask about baggage help and walking surfaces rather than assuming a motor transfer awaits.

Padang Bai: check the road leg and the named landing

Padang Bai is Ekajaya’s primary Bali departure point. Its FAQ says Bali shuttles are an additional-cost service with location-dependent pricing. Confirm the transfer rather than assuming it is bundled into the boat fare.

If you are comparing Padang Bai departures to Trawangan, compare the full offer: check-in instructions, stops, baggage and refund rules. Do not treat a seller’s “Bali” pickup label as proof that it covers your hotel, or a destination label as proof of a nonstop service.

Serangan: count the intermediate calls

BlueWater’s published October outbound pattern includes one Serangan service via Nusa Penida and another via Padang Bai. The same page has separate seasonal tables, including a different November–April pattern. Read the table for your travel month rather than carrying an October departure assumption into a winter booking.

Its schedule names Trawangan, Air and Bangsal, not a Meno landing. A ticket reaching Air can only be part of a Meno journey if you deliberately arrange the additional crossing. Confirm the landing arrangement with your chosen carrier; not every operator has the same island endpoints.

What the fare must tell you

Ekajaya does not publish one permanent regular fare in its FAQ: the price depends on season, availability and promotions. Compare a live quote for your exact route, date and passenger group. Record whether it includes the Bali road leg, luggage and any harbour or landing charges. No live ticket price is asserted here.

Read the actual seller’s terms as well as the carrier’s. Ekajaya warns that third-party refund policies may differ. For reduced mobility, pregnancy or a relevant health condition, check the chosen carrier’s restrictions before paying, rather than assuming one fast boat is suitable because another accepts the booking.

Check-in is a deadline, not your pickup time

BlueWater’s published last check-in is 30 minutes before departure. That is its rule, not a universal Gili fast-boat rule and not a target arrival time for every carrier. Use the check-in instructions on your confirmed booking and leave extra margin for the road transfer.

Avoid a tight same-day flight-arrival-to-boat connection. A late flight, immigration or traffic can consume the gap before you reach the port. If the remaining sailing cannot be confirmed, overnight in Bali rather than treating an advertised departure as a protected connection.

Plan the return separately

The return needs its own embarkation point, stop order and onward road transfer. If Bali is also your flight departure island, plan that buffer before you fix the last Gili night.
