Which boat goes from the Gilis to Nusa Penida?
BlueWater Express publishes a seasonal afternoon service from Gili Trawangan and Gili Air to Nusa Penida, calling at Bangsal on mainland Lombok before crossing to Penida. Eka Jaya also lists Penida and all three Gilis among its booking destinations; search the exact direction and date before relying on that alternative.
For October, BlueWater lists Trawangan departure at 14:10, Air at 14:35, Bangsal at 15:00 and Penida arrival at 16:55. These are approximate WITA (GMT+8) times, not a promise of an uninterrupted crossing. The scheduled elapsed time is 2 hours 45 minutes from Trawangan or 2 hours 20 minutes from Air.
BlueWater direction-specific timetableWhere you start changes your morning
From Trawangan, go to the operator’s named harbour check-in point; BlueWater’s 30-minute cutoff means checking in by 13:40 for its listed October departure. From Air, the corresponding cutoff is 14:05 for the 14:35 sailing. These are latest check-in times, not suggested hotel departure times. Leave additional time to reach the counter and handle bags.
From Meno, BlueWater requires a separate local boat to Air or Trawangan because it does not call at Meno. Arrange that leg with room for delay, or choose a date-specific through booking that explicitly names Meno. Eka Jaya’s terms warn that Meno and Air departures involve earlier shuttle arrangements; its generic ferry departure time is not necessarily your local boarding time.
Eka Jaya check-in and shuttle conditionsBuyuk arrival is not Banjar Nyuh
BlueWater identifies Buyuk as its Penida harbour. Eka Jaya’s booking selector names Banjar Nyuh. Tell your accommodation or driver which one appears on your ticket: a pickup arranged at the other harbour will not meet your arrival.
For the October BlueWater service, plan the evening around the 16:55 scheduled arrival plus unloading and the road transfer. An accommodation check-in and dinner are a more workable first evening than a prepaid island tour tied to the docking time. If you are travelling on to Bali instead of staying on Penida, the additional sea leg leaves little tolerance for disruption.
BlueWater arrival harbour on PenidaCheck the month, not just the route name
BlueWater’s October and May–June panels show Penida arrival at 16:55. Its August panel instead shows arrival at 16:40, while the November–April panel has no Penida stop. The route therefore cannot be treated as an identical year-round afternoon departure. The operator’s current seasonal panel and your dated ticket should agree.
When your month has no suitable direct option, compare Eka Jaya’s date-specific results or break the journey through Bali with a night between separate tickets. Do not buy a Gili–Bali ticket expecting to leave the boat at Penida unless Penida is an actual stop on that sailing.

A ticket-only price is not a hotel-to-hotel total. Add any local boat from Meno, the journey to your Gili check-in point, port charges not included in the ticket and your Penida driver. Eka Jaya publishes variable fares rather than one fixed Penida route price, and its Bali shuttle offer does not include Penida. Get the final dated price before choosing between operators.
Do not mistake a voluntary cancellation for an operator cancellation if the weather deteriorates. Keep the booking and wait for the carrier’s written options before cancelling or buying a replacement.
What to do when a Gili ferry is cancelledFor the opposite direction
Penida-to-Gili departures use a different time of day and a different stop sequence. Use the outward guide when planning that leg; the afternoon return times above do not apply.
