Where to stay on Gili Air

Stay near your arrival point, face Lombok for sunrise or choose the west coast for sunset. Compare the location before choosing a room.

Choose the coast before the room

Gili Air gives you two quite different outlooks: sunrise towards Lombok on the east coast, sunset on the west. If the arrival walk matters more than the view, begin with your landing point and the route to your room. Those are separate decisions; a beachfront address does not answer both.

The coast descriptions below use the locations of two properties as examples. They are a way to understand the island, rather than hotel recommendations. Neither a coast name nor an attractive photograph establishes the swimming conditions, noise or view from a particular room.

Choose your base

Arrival first
Compare the actual route from your boat’s landing point to the room, including the surface you will cross with luggage.
Morning outlook
Look at the east beach for sunrise towards Lombok. A room farther back may not share the beachfront view.
Evening outlook
Look at the west coast for sunset near your accommodation. Exact position and neighbouring venues still matter.
Quiet first
Judge the property and its neighbours, rather than treating either coast as uniformly quiet.

East coast: sunrise towards Lombok

Sunrise Resort, on the east beach, describes sunrise towards Lombok’s Mount Rinjani. This is the coast to look at if you want that morning outlook from your accommodation. Check the room’s orientation: an east-coast address does not mean every room has a sea view.

West coast: a sunset-facing stay

Vyaana identifies its beachfront location as the west side of Gili Air and advertises sunset views. Start on this coast if watching the sunset near your room matters more than a sunrise view towards Lombok. The property’s exact position still matters; ask about its harbour access and neighbouring venues rather than assuming the whole coast is quiet.

Keep arrival and beach access separate

Choose a room location only after you know which island and landing point your boat serves. Then compare the walk with the outlook you want. A west-coast stay may suit the evening you have in mind even if the arrival route is less convenient; a room near your arrival may make more sense if carrying bags is the deciding factor.

Do not infer a sandy, easy-entry swimming spot from “beachfront”. The relevant shore is immediately outside the property, and conditions can differ from a promotional photograph. This guide compares locations, rather than recommending a swimming site or a boat service.

Does Air suit the rest of your stay?

Indonesia Tourism describes Air as a quieter alternative to Trawangan and the closest of these three islands to mainland Lombok. Trawangan has the broader nightlife scene; Meno is the smallest island. Start with Air if its coastal choices suit the stay you want, then use the island comparison if you are still choosing between the three.

Being closer to Lombok is a geographical distinction, not a promise of a shorter journey from your particular departure port. Compare the actual route separately before buying a ticket.
